Text Box: Computer Classes
Your Collinsville Public Library Center offers countless printed and online resources for learning almost anything about any topic you could want to learn.  However, there has always been a gap between people new to computers and the references that exist today.  Sometimes, people learning new things need more than a thick book of information to get them through.
That is where your Collinsville Library comes to the rescue!  Did you know we have free public computing classes available to anyone willing to learn?  You, your friends, your family members, ANYONE (even without a library card!) can come in and learn a wide selection of topics to help you get the most out of your computer.  The only requirement is a willingness to learn and a desire to have fun doing it!
Classes currently meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30pm to 7:00pm and on Saturdays from 10:30am to 12:00pm.  We ask that you stop into the Media Center to sign up for any desired classes.  Class registration fee is $5.00 and is completely refunded when you arrive for the class or cancel 24 hours in advance of the class.
Our class topics include:
Basics 1 & 2 – Understand the mouse, keyboard, parts of your computer, and how to use them to help keep your files organized on your computer.
Email 1 & 2 – Learn how email works, receive a free email account, understand email addresses, and learn to use address book and attachments.
Internet Basics – Know how to find what you need on the Internet by searching or learning about website addresses.  Also covers safety online.
Word Processing – Use Microsoft Word to make basic letters, reports, etc. using fonts, paragraph formatting, page formatting, and editing tools.
Card Catalog and Online Databases/Virtual Reference – Learn to find anything our Library System has to offer by using the online library card catalog system and the Library’s subscription databases while also contacting our librarians with your questions.
Excel – Discover the power behind simple spreadsheets, how to create them, understanding formulas, etc.
Q & A – No holds barred – any computer question is fair game.  Ask any random question about a computing problem you’ve experienced, computing terms you don’t understand, or concepts you aren’t familiar with!
